FLAT AI IMAGE → PHOTOSHOP LAYERS
How to turn a flat AI image into Photoshop layers
To turn a flat AI-generated image into editable Photoshop layers, open the LayerUnfold plugin inside Photoshop, generate a Masking layer from the selected artwork, then choose color separation or Base, Shadow, and Highlight decomposition. The output returns to the same document as organized layer groups.
Workflow inside Photoshop
- Install the CCX with Creative Cloud Desktop
- Select the artwork pixel layer
- Generate Masking
- Run Color Split, Normal-layer Shading, or Source-Aligned Line Art + Shading
Processing and ticket use by action
Mask generation uses OpenAI and costs 5 tickets. CPU-based Color Split costs 5, Normal-layer Shading costs 10, and Source-Aligned Line Art + Shading costs 15 tickets. Line Art & Base, which used Google Gemini API, is retired from the current plugin.
Conditions and limits
LayerUnfold does not recover the original PSD history. The current pixel-exact contract targets supported 8-bit RGB documents, and the public real-output corpus is still being validated.
