NON-GENERATIVE LAYER DECOMPOSITION
What is non-generative layer decomposition?
In LayerUnfold, non-generative layer decomposition means separating the input pixels into editable Photoshop layers without replacing the final artwork pixels with a model redraw. It does not mean that no AI is used.
How it differs from a generative redraw
- Whether the final artwork is based on newly generated pixels or the input image
- Whether the finished result can be independently checked
- Whether the output layers can be inspected and edited inside Photoshop
Where LayerUnfold uses AI
The current plugin uses OpenAI for Mask generation. Color Split, Normal-layer Shading, and Source-Aligned Line Art + Shading use CPU processing. Line Art & Base, which used Google Gemini API, is retired.
What the category does not mean
It does not recover the historical PSD structure and does not promise 100% matching for every image or format. The proprietary decomposition formulas and parameters remain private.
Frequently asked questions
